Thoughts from a current professional footballer
The ideal way to wear clothing
As the uniform supplier for Jubilo Iwata in the 2022 season, Admiral has been fighting alongside the team through the long and tough league. The sight of Jubilo's elite players in action, clad in Admiral apparel never before seen in the J.League, must have made a fresh impact on many supporters.
What were the thoughts and feelings of the players wearing Admiral's apparel, which just debuted on the J.League stage this past year? To find out, we gathered three athletes who are also contracted with Admiral and asked them about the comfort of Admiral items and their favorite ways of wearing them.
Interview in December 2022
First, I'd like to ask you about your preferences when it comes to "wearing your uniforms." Everyone basically wears the same uniform for matches, but I imagine there are several options for training wear. Can each person choose what suits their taste?
That's right. There are several types available so you can choose the one that suits your style.
Some players like to wear tight clothing, while others prefer looser clothing. Everyone has their own preferences.
What are the things that you are particular about?
I don't want my movements to be restricted, so I try to choose clothes that are as loose as possible and don't feel too tight around the hips.
I like tight clothes that fit my body well. People around me often tease me, saying, "They're too tight!" (laughs).
Indeed, Matsumoto always wears tights that are so tight you can't tell if they're soccer shorts or spats (lol).
That's right. If it doesn't fit well and flaps around, it's hard to concentrate... so I like a snug fit. But on the flip side, stretch is essential.
I see. So you really think about the parts that affect your performance. What are your particular concerns, Fujiwara-san?
I don't like to wear underwear, so I place importance on the feel and texture of my clothing. Since I wear it directly on my skin, I like things that are smooth and comfortable against the skin.
I'm the type of person who is concerned about sweat, so I always wear an inner layer, but Kensuke, don't you mind sweating?
No, I don't sweat much (laughs).
I imagine it must be quite difficult to show your particular style during a match... but when I watch J-League matches these days, it seems like a lot of players are particular about how they wear their socks...
Yes, there is. They are worn without folding over, extending down to above the knee.
Maybe it's because it looks cool (lol)?
People who wear "five-toe socks" choose separate types, so I think that inevitably means they can wear them for a long time. On the other hand, there are also cases where they are worn very short.
I'm sure there are some players who are particular about their appearance, but some England players have thick calves so they wear custom-made short socks to avoid feeling too tight.
I see, it seems like each person has their own particular preferences. By the way, Fujiwara-san, you were in the youth team until recently, but do you look up to the style of top players and use it as a model?
When I was in the youth team, I wasn't really conscious of how to dress, but since I've reached the top level, I've seen my seniors in practice and thought, "Oh, so there's a way to dress like that," and I've taken inspiration from them. There are more options for training wear than when I was in the youth team, after all.
What I learned after wearing it for a year
Features and strong points of Admiral's wear
Admiral plans to continue producing a wide range of sportswear in the future, but what are your expectations for Admiral in the future, both as a professional and as a user?
There's nothing to say about the quality of Ogawa products! This year, I've had many opportunities to wear matching bench coats with my children, which made me really happy, and I'd like to enjoy coordinating various items with my children in the future. So, I'm looking forward to seeing the kids' line expand even further.
Matsumoto: I'd like to see more monotone colored items (laughs). Of course, I'm also looking forward to colorful items. I think this item in particular, which incorporates sax blue as an accent color into black, is really cool. I'd be happy if there were more "colorful" items like this (laughs).
It's mostly black though (laughs).
I'm also very satisfied with my match uniform. I've heard that the design will change a bit next season and it will be even cooler, so I'm looking forward to it. Personally, I hope that the variety of golf wear will increase. Of course, there are already so many to choose from, but I hope that there will be even more!
Finally, please give a message to your supporters as we look ahead to the upcoming new season.
Thank you for your support last season. In the new season, we will do our best to get promoted to J1 within a year. We appreciate your continued support!
Our absolute goal is to win the J2 league. We will do our best to live up to your expectations!
Thank you for your continued support!
We will fight through the year without any injuries and definitely return to the J1 stage.

We look forward to seeing you all fighting in the Admiral uniform.
